Wood Shingle (THIS PICTURE): Wooden roof shingles were lightweight, made with simple tools, and easily installed. Shingles, the thinner of the two, have smooth, sawn surfaces. Wood Shake: A shake is a wooden shingle that is made from split logs. When these are used for covering the top of a house, the result is a shake roof.Shakes may be either sawn or hand-split for a more rugged appearance.
